Stephen F. Austin State University is located in Nacogdoches, Texas, approximately 180 miles east of Dallas via Interstate 20 and 140 miles north of Houston via U.S. highway 59. The university, established as a teacher's college, conducted the first classes in September 1923. It currently enrolls more than 11,000 graduate and undergraduate students in 93 bachelor's, 61 master's and two doctoral programs.
